Knitted Gifts

This will be a quick post before I run off to work today.  I received a gift a couple of weeks ago.  Not necessarily a Christmas gift, but it was given to me around the Holidays.  Most of you know that I recently had a pattern of mine published on Knitty.com.  Well my mother, as any mother would be, was very proud of this and let all of the knitters and crocheters in the family know.  Shortly after that, I received phone calls from Mom with not-so-veiled questions on how could she find and download the pattern, what kind of yarn would work best - did it have to be cashmere, and what was my favorite color?

Just before New Year's, Mom arrived for her scheduled visit bearing gifts for Christmas.  When she handed me this

I was shocked.  When she told me that my Great-Aunt Vera made it for me I bawled like a little baby.  (Is your mom good at making you cry, too?)  Aunt Vera, until recently, was the only Knitter in a family of Crocheters and is my oldest living relative - 89.  I don't get to see her very often because she lives "back home", but I do visit her whenever I'm in town.  So now I have a more practical (read: warm) version of Halcyon to wear all the time and I'm so grateful that my dear Aunt Vera would spend her precious knitting hours on me.

But wait...  There's more!  So what does an eternally grateful knitter do when she wants to thank someone??

She knits them something, of course!

Behold,  The Bird In Hand Mittens by Kate Gilbert.  (The yarn is Cascade 220)  The first one is nearly finished and they should be in the mail shortly and on their way to keeping my aunt's hands warm this winter.

How sweet of your mom to spread the word and of your Great-Aunt to knit for you. She'll love the mittens!

Thanks Jeni for making me cry today...
